A powerhouse of creativity
A dynamo of Brisbane’s creative community, the Powerhouse needed a website that communicates the vivacity and spectrum of our thriving arts scene. With events, festivals and installations that span across music, comedy, print, paint, fine arts, photography and much more, we had to create a framework that retains the Powerhouse brand, but allows the performances to shine.
Our challenge was to balance this creative mélange with a highly functional user experience design, and a content management platform with the flexibility and stability to integrate with a wide range of ticketing & event systems.
To achieve an optimal outcome we needed to remove the traditional walls between design and development, and work in the kind of truly collaborative way that so much of the art that appears at the Powerhouse itself is created.
A modern application
Our aim was for the Brisbane Powerhouse platform to not only be responsive to all modern devices, but to the ever-shifting cultural seasons of the venue. Cross-device, fully customisable content, full-screen video, animation, and loading motifs create an engaging, dynamic website that changes with the happenings at the venue.
Under the hood the Brisbane Powerhouse website utilises API integration to automate events pages and support ticketing and payment systems, creating a full service digital event solution with an extremely high level of CMS control.
Bespoke iconography
Building on the refreshed visual identity, the website’s iconography aligns with and enhances its energetic new look.
The utilitarian icons centre around Brisbane Powerhouse’s arrow centrepiece and harken back to the industrial history of the space.
From the client
The relaunch of the Powerhouse website was met with great results and immensely favourable reviews. The Powerhouse team and all stakeholders were extremely receptive to the update and the site saw a bump in traffic and ticket sales continue to rise.

Working with the team at Flip was a dream. The projects we briefed them on were complicated, with many moving parts, and required creative flair to be used while adhering to our unique brands.
Flip undertook each project with enthusiasm and care – they understood user journeys and foresaw issues before they happened, adding in details that we would never think to ask for.
The result were MASSIVE projects delivered better than we could have expected: the development of the new Brisbane Powerhouse website with an integrated scheduling system, a technical and aesthetic facelift of the Brisbane Comedy Festival, the creation of the Vertigo website that garnered international attention, and the creation of the Melt website that perfectly merged playful with nostalgia, elevating the brand to what it could be.
Through each project the team remained cheerful, eager and a joy to work with. Nothing was too hard, or impossible.
Flip = good people, with good ideas.
