Illuminating the Past and Present

We partnered with the Museum of Brisbane to bring their vision for New Light: Photography Now + Then to life. This groundbreaking exhibition weaves together the iconic Elliott Collection – a stunning photographic archive spanning 1890 to 1940 – with the vibrant, contemporary works of Brisbane’s finest photographers.

Our mission? To craft two compelling short films that immerse visitors in a seamless dialogue between history and modern artistry.

Every frame was designed to resonate with the exhibition’s monochrome and modern aesthetic. The artist interviews were raw and authentic, bringing their voices and visions to the forefront. Meanwhile, the antique camera film transported viewers to a bygone era, leveraging stylised visuals to harmonise with the exhibition’s vintage themes.

Film 1: Breathing Life into History

In just a few mesmerising minutes, we reimagined the operation of a camera reminiscent of Alfred Elliott’s era. Shot in black-and-white, this silent, tactile film evokes the stillness of early cinema while showcasing the elegance of antique photography.

Positioned next to Elliott’s original camera, it bridged the gap between curiosity and historical craftsmanship.

Film 2: Capturing the Artists’ Vision

Through studio interviews with seven contemporary photographers, paired with evocative B-roll footage of their engagement with the Elliott Collection, we created a deeply personal 14-minute film that takes viewers behind the creative curtain.

This film delivers an intimate exploration of inspiration and artistic process. Displayed in a custom-designed ‘film pod’ across two large portrait screens, it became a central focal point of the exhibition experience.
